This is a personal blog, my name is Kar-Ling Wong-Sow. I am of Chinese origin and I grew up in Malaysia. I have been living the UK for the past 20 years. However, I do miss the warm, humid tropical weather of Malaysia. My other half is British so hence the surname.
Growing up with my mum cooking and baking from scratch almost every day has always inspire and almost in grain in me to cook all the time. I thought everybody always did that.
My mum also sew most of her own clothes. She took to buy the nicest fabrics in town. That is why I always love great quality fabrics. Now that I living in the UK I can access to Italian silks and recently found different types of tweeds made in the UK. I love to support the small businesses.
I learn to sew when I was very young. I learn most of the sewing from my mum, books and when I came to the UK I did a bit of apprenticeship at Savile Row during my spare time. Nothing to rave about but that experience thought me how much hard work can tailoring and sewing can be. How skill and thought one needs to put into to make it work. I love watch the series Great British Sew Bee and Great British Bake Off. After all a slice of cake goes hand in hand while one is working away at the sewing machine.
I am very much into keeping everything as environmental friendly as possible by using natural dyes. From kitchen waste to natural dyeing.
I started growing my own food after having a house which came with a small garden. I have been growing my own veg and fruit (edible) since in the spring summer growing season mainly.
I write about making things at home like dressmaking, fabric dyeing and printing. I also write about home cook recipes and homegrown edibles like flowers, fruit and veg. As the blog grew I find myself writing things related to blogging, things surrounding my everyday life and family activities as well. I have a young growing family.
I try to blog whenever I can find time. In between school runs, when my son goes to sleep. I am a qualified nurse and still practising at a busy tertiary hospital here in London.
I welcome working with others but only if it is relevant to this blogs future. Thank you very much for having a look and stopping by.
