This is a wall-hanging botanical printed on leather and cotton as a backing. I have used leather on this work as it is a fibre that will absorb natural dyes and print from foliage and flowers very well.
Leaves were locally foraged to produce the prints. I grow the flowers myself in my garden. It does take time to create natural prints as first, the fabric needs to be scoured, mordanted and then processed. The leather needs to be pretreated before printing. Then, later on, the fabric is washed to remove any excess dye that is produced during the printing process. This process can take up to 3 days due to the preparation of the final product stages. All these steps are done locally in London, where I am currently based.
We use the best products as much as we can. This fabric and leather are new and are sourced from the best fabrics and leather suppliers possible, as much as I can from local suppliers based in the UK. At times after the printing process,s new products/ fibres react to mordants, and therefore they can look used. Some creases that are on this print are part of the natural printing process.
This product can be used as another type of product, like a table cover. It is finished with a light cotton dyed, slightly all-natural print.
Product dimensions are 49 cm X 82 cm
Care of the product
As it is a wall hanging botanical print, do keep it away from strong sunlight as the sun will bleach the natural dyed colours.
